Recession Prices! (actually the price of gold has fallen!)

There is good news in this economic downturn...
The price of gold has fallen. Not an amazing amount, but enough to make a difference.
The last time we adjusted our prices, unfortunately we had to raise them because the cost of materials (Gold, Silver...) had gone through the roof! The highest they had been in a very very long time.
We have gone through our catalog and lowered all the prices to reflect the recent drop in gold prices. It seems unfair and a bit scandalous to not lower our prices. And could there be a better time to do it?!?
Model Shoot!

We were in need of pictures that show the size and scale of the jewelry (they will be on our website soon...)
It was a long day of shooting, but we ended up with some great shots.
I have put up a photo gallery on our website, www.donovansmithdesign.com/candid
A huge thanks for all the hard work from everyone!
and Patrick Eichler: makeup artist extraordinaire!

"Doored" while riding to work...
I ended up in the ER after colliding with a door that was flung open in front of me as I was riding my bike to the studio. Pretty sore and I do not have full use of my right hand yet!
I was wearing my helmet, thankfully.
I will be back to the bench making more jewelry soon..
More Custom Work
Here is a pic of a custom job I am just finishing up.
The amazing photographer that I have take my pictures, Steven Crawford, is unfortunately on vacation in South America at the moment... so I am stuck taking a snapshot.
They are matching damascus steel bracelets with inlaid 14k white gold plaques reading "bound by love 2008". On the ends of the bracelets are set one 5mm ruby and one 5mm blue sapphire.
The bracelets are housed in a wooden box with another plaque to match the bracelets.
In what now feels like a past life, I used to make a lot of steel jewelry for another company. So it was a strange coincidence that someone would approach me to do this custom order. There were actually many strange coincidences with this project... esoteric synchronicity abounds!
It was fun to work with steel again, and also a little painful... I should post the pictures of my swollen, hammer struck finger or my lacerated fingers that were victims of aggressive filing.
It also reminded me how crazy an idea it is to have handmade steel jewelry in ones production line... a word of warning to young designers.
